ever wondered how much an 8 month old should eat in one day?
How much food should a 8 month old eat?
Now that your baby has started eating more food it can be challenging to know if your baby is eating enough.
At this age, your baby needs between 750 and 900 calories each day.
Of this amount of calories your baby will have about 400 to 500 of their calories from breast milk or formula (approximately 24 oz. [720 mL] a day).
Breast milk or formula is the primary source of nutrients for your baby until 12 months. Always offer milk first before offering food.
The amount of food your baby needs per day will depend on when you introduced solids.
Some babies don’t have solids introduced until 8 months and others start as early as 4 months.
If food has been introduced earlier in a baby’s life then they will have been exposed to a larger variety of foods.
As you are introducing more new foods remember to wait 4 days before introducing another new food. This is to be sure that they do not have any reaction to the new food.
If your baby has not been introduced many foods then this menu may not be applicable for your baby at this stage.
Additionally, most babies are not ready to eat 3 ‘meals’ a day until the 9-10 month + age. Be led from the cues of your baby.
Introducing finger foods and more ‘textured’ foods is good at this age.
Depending upon your baby’s food intake level will also influence the type of food stage offered, whether it be pureed, textured, etc.
Bulk cooking foods and freezing can be time efficient as at this age they do not eat a large amount at a time. A good tip is to freeze in ice cube trays and then bag (label and date). That way you can grab a cube as needed and increase the number of cubes as their appetite increases.
It can be confusing knowing just how much and the types of foods to give to our growing little one. When they start to become more active also can add to the confusion as to the amount.
