How much food should a toddler eat in a day?
Knowing if your child is eating enough can be very worrying. Children’s appetite can change regularly.
Some days they seems ravenous and other days it is a challenge to get your child to eat at all.
Toddlers have small stomachs. Small serving sizes are best.
A nutritious breakfast for a toddler might include grains, of which they need three servings per day, and add in two other food groups. Example being a whole-grain muffin with banana slices and milk.
And then when they have a growth spurt it alters again.
Toddlers are ready to have structure in their meals and eating schedule.
It can be confusing knowing just how much and the types of foods to give to our growing little one. Avoid processed foods and sweets if possible. Provide snacks at least 1 hour before a meal. Try to represent at least two food groups in each snack and at least three food groups at each meal. This will ensure they are receiving their nutritional requirements per day.
Offer a variety of food groups throughout the day.
Whole grapes and cherry tomatoes are unsafe to provide to children. They pose a choking hazard. Cutting them reduces the risk.
When a child becomes more active you may find they want more food.
