SK is going on a world tour travelling overseas with ONLY carry on luggage.
Are we crazy? We don’t think so.
We think it will be relatively easily done.
We travel quite extensively between the east and west coast of Australia, having done the ‘loop’ around Australia a few times in a few different vans over the years.
We have really been ‘training’ for this for pretty much the last few years. We have travelled Oz in a caravan, numerous times, as our primary residence and since then have not tended to accumulate much material things.
We generally live by the principle of ‘things’ are not as important as memories and experiences are!
One of the main reasons is to not over pack. It is so easy to fall into the trap of over packing just to be sure you have this or that. A by-product is that it provides the opportunity to beat the queues, ensure we have no lost luggage, but ultimately the travel light and have freedom to move and travel more places and to offer flexibility are the main instigators behind our initial decision.
We have been researching into different tricks, suggestions and travel hacks to help us achieve this goal. Initially we were slightly worried about travel restrictions and how that would potentially impact our packing…what we could pack, what we would have to sacrifice to go carry on only but after research it really seems feasible and there really is nothing that we will leave behind that we actually need.
