The crime-solving detective game Unsolved Case Files is an exciting puzzle game to enjoy with the family. The purpose of the game is to solve the case. After looking through the evidence (except from the bonus envelope) and using links to the games websiteyou work through the evidence to solve the case. Each game is a specific case. Our case was Jamie Banks. Jamie’s unsolved case was originallly ruled as a suicide, after she was found on the ground after falling out a school window.
The evidence and information are presented in realistic and believable packaging, with labels clearly showing what is each piece. You have three objectives to complete. After each objective you are provided more information online to continue to solve the mystery.
As the detectives, the information needs to be analysed to check for small details and evidence read to get an understanding of the case. Despite the amount of evidence seeming realistic and quite entertaining, it is led by the team to unpack where to start and what needs to be solved for each checkpoint. While there is the potential for some confusion on where to start investigating amongst the large quantity of evidence provided, it does add a more genuine feel to your “investigation”, and the website for checking your findings is a helpful inclusion.
As a result of the amount of thinking and puzzle-solving needed in this game, it is rather advanced and requires a mature mind to play. If you are stuck, accessing the online component can offer additional hints to help.
It is a quite intensive game that can merge into quite a period of time to ‘play’ to solve the case, with many details needing to be thought about and questioned.
Something to be mindful of is that once the crime has been solved and the killer confirmed, the ending and killer remain the same for any subsequent times played. Although the quality is high and is very engaging to play for all included.
