Putting ourselves first is often the last thing that we tend to do and with the world in chaos right now it may seem even harder to prioritise time for yourself as we stay at home to try to kick this virus in the butt.
Normally, and it’s almost hard to recall what normal was as our new normal is so vastly different, we tend to be caught up in the daily grind and tend to focus on everything else before ourselves. Especially now, given these unique times it is so important to remember, for our own mental health and well-being, that we need to take time to look after ourselves. Yes, I can hear the collective sighs. It now seems so much harder to do than ever before given that we are staying at home and everyone is taking up the limited space within the house and it seems like you will never have a spare second for yourself every again.
Take a deep breath to allow yourself the time and energy to get used to the new normal. Whilst the new normal may take some getting used to as we learn to coordinate and juggle our new commitments, new routines and new life, we can look for a positive in even the littlest of things.
With all the craziness and mayhem swirling around us in the world, in our country, in our lives we now more than ever need to look after ourselves as well.
Just before the COVID-19 virus hit with such force to Australia I was reading “Me First- The guilt-free guide to prioritising you” by Kate Christie. What timing, hey! Now yes, this book is obviously focused more on the normality of life pre the virus but some of the strategies within the book are relevant and essential for helping us get through this.
It is easy to see how this is Kate’s 4th book and how she has the formula right for helping readers to maximise their productivity and overcome challenges to achieve a balanced success across work, family, community and life.
The book is a practical guide to help you find (or recover) time. It shares common mistakes and challenges and discusses why it is so important to prioritise you through sharing scenarios, solutions and strategies. It goes through proven techniques, has practical exercises and tools to better invest your time in what matters most, while still having plenty of time for you.
This is definitely a book for time poor parents.
