This certainly gives a great panoramic view of Auckland and puts the city into perspective.
If you go all the way to Level 60 which is the Sky Deck you are 220 metres (722 feet) above the city. The entire structure is 328 metres high (over 1076 feet)…. that is around 37 buses if they were to stand end to end.
Whilst is is one of the shorter towers in the scheme of tall towers (Dubai has the largest at a whopping 828 metres or 2717 feet!!) it is still quite a commanding structure. It is THE tallest structure in NZ!
The Sky Tower took over 2 years to build (construction started in 1994) and when it was opened in 1997 the final bill for the project was NZ$85 million.
It weighs a massive 21 million kilos…. which is more than 6000 elephants (a did you know fact according to the Sky Tower info!) AND is primarily constructed from 15,000 cubic metres of concrete along with 2,000 tonnes of reinforced steel and 260 panes of glass.
There is a restaurant that sits at the top of the tower and rotates. Our stomachs weren’t strong enough to try that!
A family of 2 adults and 2 children is a family ticket $75
It is located on the corner of Federal & Victoria St, in the Auckland CBD.
There is free WI-FI, a cafe and the casino with a whole host of restaurants right there as well.
