When do baby’s teeth come in?
Did you know that a baby is actually born with around 20 baby teeth.
They generally tend to start to come through the gums when a baby is around 6 months old.
Although some babies can start as young as 4 months old or as late as 10 months. Each child is slightly different.
The teeth at the centre of the bottom jaw are normally the first ones to come through the gums.
A full set of 20 baby teeth have usually appeared by age 3 years old. This is 10 in each jaw- the upper and lower jaw.
Teeth come in various sizes and locations based on the task they have. All teeth and their differences work together to support a child to chew, speak and smile.
Baby teeth are important.
They help your child to chew food easily and to pronounce words properly.
Baby teeth provide the foundation for the permanent teeth. They maintain the space for permanent teeth, guiding them into their correct position.
As your child continues to grow and develop so does their jaw.
Permanent teeth will begin to replace baby teeth at around 5 or 6 years old.
