The more over tired they become to longer, and often harder it may be for the baby to go to sleep and often they will sleep for a shorter period.
A delay in acknowledging the signs may cause your baby to become agitated or distressed.

It means being able to put a baby to sleep when they are sleepy but not over tired.

0-4-month-old should be awake less than 45-60 minutes
4-6-month-old can be awake for 1-2 hours
6-12-month-old can be awake for 2-3 hours
12-18-month-old can be awake for 3-4 hours
18 months-2 years can manage 4-6 hours of awake time

A newborn will display slightly differing sleepy cues than a baby over 3 months.
A newborn has limited control over their limbs and movements. Their movements are more influenced by reflexes.
