Literacy and numeracy are fundamental building blocks for children’s educational achievement. Having poor literacy can result in disadvantage in many ways throughout life.

Literacy is the ability to read and write.

Figures show that 420,000 Australian boys between 5 – 14 yrs DON’T read for pleasure.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics show this is 31.2% of boys until 14 yrs compared to only 19% of girls.
It is believed this is because boys take their cues from their fathers and inadvertently they aren’t encouraging their boys to read.
