Who dreams of heading off and enjoying a winter getaway?
If you haven’t been to the snow with kids before then there can be a multitude of questions swirling around in your head and perhaps even a large dose of doubt about whether a snow holiday is right for your family right now.
Winter family snow holidays will be a memorable experience for everyone.
So you are heading to the snow for your holiday. Even the avid skier can be apprehensive when travelling to the snow for the first time with kids.
But it doesn’t have to be challenging if you are prepared and plan ahead.
Tops tips for a successful snow trip
- Choose a child-friendly resort and research the Kid’s Club and ski school options in advance
- Allow plenty of time for the journey to the ski fields. An overnight stop en-route may be a wise move and allow you to arrive fresh the next day
- Plan for some days spent doing other activities if the weather is poor
- Stock up on warm gear for everyone: fibre pile and polypropylene layers are best. Don’t forget beanies, scarves and water proof gloves
- Hire boots and helmets. Don’t forget sunglasses!
- Organise some time at ski school for the kids…they will love playing in the snow with other kids and you get much-needed time to try the harder ski runs
- Don’t let older kids supervise the littlies … it’s just too different an environment and you need to be watching them
- Put your contact details on a piece of paper in their pocket in case you get separated and show them how to identify staff if they get lost
- Let older children get involved in choosing the trails and planning the day’s skiing
- Have some down time: skiing is tiring and little bodies will get exhausted quickly.
