Numeracy & literacy

Numeracy and literacy forms the foundation for learning.
It is much more than learning about writing, reading and counting or recognizing numbers and reciting the alphabet.
It is about connections and exploring the world.
Numeracy and literacy is not about stencils, counting or letter practice and recognition of shapes and colours.
It is about being exposed and the opportunity to explore their world.
Literacy is speaking, listening, storytelling, rhymes, jokes, songs.
Early literacy experiences include drawing, modelling, building, digging, painting, listening, talking, dramatic play.
Early numeracy includes the opportunity to problem solve, structure and pattern, measurements, spatial concepts, etc.
Play is an important tool for promoting numeracy and literacy in early childhood.
