Your baby has grown so much in the past 12 weeks.
Your baby will have developed a clear attachment to their primary caregivers. They will easily recognize familiar faces
A 3 month old is getting more into a regular sleeping pattern.
They won’t be sleeping through the whole night but you can expect 5-6 hours at one time during this age.
There will be lots of cooing, squeals of delight and gurgling as they develop pitch and tone and they will practice their vocal skills often.
There will also be lots of mouthing, sucking as this is the age that they can really connect objects and their hands with their mouths.
Your baby will spend a great deal of time looking and playing with their own hands and feet as well as focusing on some of their most favourite toys.
They also will be starting to love the tummy time which is important for their muscle development including head control.
At 3 months they will be able to hold their head steady for several minutes.
If they are sitting aided they will be able to support their head.
At 3 months a baby can
- Hands are loosely open.
- Enjoys company and smiles.
- Shows excitement at things like the main caregiver about to feed them.
- Turns towards the sudden startling sound but is still disturbed by it.
- Watches own hands.
- Lift head and chest if on belly.
- Begin to roll from side to side.
- When held in a sitting position will have a straight back and hold head up for short period.
- When pulled to sitting head is only lagging slightly.
- Reaches for dangling objects and is able to grasp and reach out for objects.
- Follows objects from side to side in front of them.
- Kicks are getting stronger as their knee and hip joints are getting stronger.
- Can bring both hands together.
