This book is a little different from other books we get to review. The Flying Optometrist is based on a true story inspired by the authors own father who flies a self built plane and the story that unfolds is about the important role the optometrist plays in remote communities.
The book follows the journey of a flying optometrist as he travels across Australia providing invaluable eye health consultancy in remote communities that would otherwise have no access to an optometrist. It shares the heartwarming stories of how the remote communities embrace him on his travels and how those in the communities cant wait for him to arrive. It shares the challenges of those living in remote communities and their accessibility to medical opportunities and the impact the effects of the optometrist has on a small remote community.
It is raw and real. It shares the lives of those that live in remote communities with others that may not otherwise have heard their story. It is close to home for us as we live in the Pilbara and can identify with the nearby remote communities and the barrier they often face and this is a positive story.
The book was written by Joanne Anderton and published in association with the Brein Holden Institute. The book is illustrated beautifully by Karen Erasmus and the illustrations totally fit the story.
The book RRP $24.99 and we consider that to be great value for the quality and content of the book.
It hit book selves on the 1st March this year.
