As a baby becomes more active so do their toys especially the ones that promote (or allow) independence.
- Toys that they can move- push or pull
- Toys that have actions- i.e. ones with a hammer or knobs, etc
- Stacking or nesting toys
- Simple puzzles
- Musical/interactive activity centres
- Physical toys- slide, climbing tunnels, etc
- Sand, water, tactile things
- Posting boxes
- Toys they can sit on and be pushed- i.e.: pop along bike
- Placing them in positions that promote them to practise – climbing, rolling, crawling
- Play ‘chasey’, and hide and seek
- Lots of different ball games such as rolling, kicking, etc
- Lots of silly type fun and playing
- Singing and talking about things during the general routines of the day
- Posting toys into boxes, letters, etc
- Stacking blocks, toys, etc
- Feeding themselves
- Peek-a-boo.
