When working with children it is imperative that you are able to demonstrate you are legally able and cleared as safe to work with children.
This is done through a Working With Children Check (or Orchre card in the NT)
A child’s health, safety and well being is paramount.
Employers will want to establish your ability to work with children in many capacities, through your qualification, references, during the interview.
Additionally, they will need to confirm you have a current Working With Children Check or at least the ability to obtain one.
A WWCC is not only a valuable pre-employment screening tool, it is a pre-requisite for anyone wanting to work with children.
A Working With Children Check (WWCC) is a safe guard to ensure that you are cleared to work with children.
WWCC’s are one component of the overall child safety and risk management framework when employing someone who works with children.
A WWCC provides the reassurance to an employer of the suitability for the role of caring for children and piece of mind.
The WWCC holder is continuously monitored by the issuer against a comprehensive list of offences that would deem them unsuitable to be in contact with children.
To ensure the security of the WWCC most states have a photo linked to the person either on the card or on record.
In Australia each state/territory has differing requirements.
Working With Children Checks are only valid for the state they are issued in.
When a state has a WWCC it is a legal requirement to obtain one when working in the care and education of children.
Each state does do a criminal background check nationwide.
